Joe Granato is Director of The New 8-bit Heroes, developer of the NESmaker software, and creator of the upcoming NES adventure game Mystic Searches. He is a filmmaker, musician, writer, game designer, and teacher. He has held classes, workshops, and talks on retro game development at major events such as GDC, SXSW and PAX, and at educational institutions such as UCLA, Towson University, and Ringling College of Art and Design. Most recently, hey gave the keynote address for DreamWorks Animation’s TechCon.
Joe is very passionate about education and preservation. He is a big proponent of lowering the barriers of entry of development for systems like the NES. With projects like NESmaker, his goal is to make the ambition to create retro games approachable for everyone regardless of experience or skill level.
